May 6th is fast approaching. There are many national issues which will have a direct affect on Jewish students. In order to effect positive change it is important, at the very least, that you are able to vote at election time.
In order to vote on the 6th May then you have to be registered by the 20th April to be eligible to vote.
Register to Vote and Beat the BNP
It is our duty as citizens in the UK to vote in the election. The vote was fought for and defended at an inexplicably high cost and there is no better way to commemorate that struggle than to turn out to vote.
At this forthcoming general election is even more important to vote give the rise of the BNP with two seats won in the European Parliament in 2009. They won their seats off the back of falling national voter turnout. Indeed, the BNP vote in the regions of Yorkshire and The Humber actually fell from the 2004 level but for the fact that the Labour vote collapsed they were able to win their seats. The success of the BNP in 2009 should send shockwaves through the British mainstream that without their participation in national elections extremist parties will succeed.
Students make a difference
A Hope Not Hate report on the 2009 election campaign stated that 'There was also unusually high voting at the polling station closest to Manchester University, suggesting that students were coming out to vote against the BNP.' If we mobilize, turnout and vote then we can ensure that our student areas stay BNP free.
