Goldsmiths Jewish Society provides social and educational events for Jewish Students on campus and those interested in Jewish Culture. We are a small and friendly J-soc and due to the creative nature of our campus, artistic too!
We look forward to welcoming you- for more information, please email or check out the facebook group: 'Goldsmiths Jsoc'!
JSOC Notes:
We are a small and friendly J-Soc and have been up and running for 5 years. 2005 saw the start of a renaissance at Goldsmiths and since then we have held lunch and learns with visiting Rabbis, had Chanukah and Purim parties, participated in Holocaust Memorial Day events, had dinner in Golders Green which is great for those visiting students that have never been outside of South London! We have also had socials and drinks in local pubs around campus. This year saw the first ever Goldsmiths Shabbat in Greenwich. We have also organised debates; last year saw the first Israel debate held on campus with the Middle Eastern Society. We work closely with UJS, London Jsocs and Chabad of South London Campuses. Our J-Soc welcomes many international students throughout the year.
Campus Notes:
Goldsmiths has an active student union with something on every night of the week! From quizzes to 'pound a pint' and the infamous club night 'Club Sandwich' there is something for everyone! A lot of the pubs give student discounts.
Additionally, Goldsmiths is only a 15 minute train ride into Central London.
On campus, there is Loafers cafe, the Refectory and the Common Room in the Union serves delicious vegetarian food. The Road also has many restaurants.
Local Synagogue Information:
The nearest is in Staines which is quite far from New Cross. There is a Chabad house in Wimbledon, who are very welcoming.
