Hull JSOC:

Hull University Jewish society was founded 2 years ago, and in the past year has tripled in size. Although we are a small society we are very friendly and have plenty going on from festival experiences, to bar crawls, to Hebrew lessons to Friday night meals. We have great links with Sheffield, Leeds and York J-Socs and are hope to hold a northern Shabbaton with Yorkshire JSOCs this uear.

This year we started hosting Friday night meals at members' houses and we aim to have at least 2 every month. The local Jewish communities are very welcoming and our members are regularly invited to synagogue members' houses for Shabbat.

Our J-Soc is big on interfaith, for a lot of people in Hull we are the first Jewish people they've met. Our 'bring a friend to Friday night' was a big success and we planning lots more activities for next year.

Student Testimonies:

''The Jewish Society at Hull has been an extremely pleasant experience for me so far. It provides a great place for people of the Jewish faith, as well as those of different religions, to come together to learn about, and experience, Jewish history and traditions while having fun. It definitely has been fun and is a wonderful place to meet colourful individuals" - Allen

"Hull is an extremely friendly and active Jsoc and community. There is always something going on, it's never dull in Hull." - Suzanne.

Kosher Food:

You can buy kosher food from Waitrose in Anlaby this is only a 5 minute drive from the halls of residence in Cottingham and about 15 minutes away from the university. A new kosher kitchen has also been opened for the 2010/11 academic year, this will act as a great space for JSOC events!

Local Community:

There are two congregations in Hull, Hull Reform Synagogue and Hull Hebrew Congregation (Orthodox)
