Career Networking

22/03/2010
On Monday 23rd March at BDO Stoy Hayward, over 160 students and business experts attended the Career Networking event. It was a chance for university students to explore their career options, make contacts in their chosen industry, and get a head-start on other graduates.

In a novel and ground breaking initiative to help students get a head-start in the career world,  TrainE-TraidE, the Union of Jewish Students (UJS) and University Jewish Chaplaincy teamed up to organise a Jewish speed-networking event to help struggling students explore their career options and give graduates a chance to make contacts.

In a packed room hosted at BDO's central London offices, over 160 students and business experts attended the networking event, providing a dynamic opportunity for high calibre graduates from universities across the UK to network with leading business people and professionals. Using a 'speed-dating' technique format, students were matched with suitable businesses and were given a small amount of time to network and ask questions to the professionals giving the students an insight into the business world.

Introducing the event was the event's guest speaker and property magnate Gerald Ronson, who said: "My mantra has always been - lead from the front. Tonight is about you and as you get older you will have responsibilities but it is about getting involved and making a difference".

Shraga Zaltzman, managing director of TrainE - TraidE commented: "In the current economic climate many students and graduates are finding it difficult to find a job. This event is a fantastic opportunity for those students to make essential professional contacts and will hopefully provide a sounding board for someone at the start of their career."

Ian Kamiel, Chief Executive of University Jewish Chaplaincy said "One of the major causes of stress and anxiety amongst Jewish students today is what the future holds for them especially given the current economic climate. Those who attended have benefitted greatly from the valuable advice of well-established business people and professionals which will improve their future prospects greatly and help alleviate some of their anxiety."

Adam Pike, Chair of the Union of Jewish students, added: "This event showed what can be achieved when three organizations share resources and expertise to meet students' needs. I would also like to thank the business professionals for taking the time out of their busy schedules to provide valuable support and advice to the students."
