UJS Statement RE: Antisemitism in the Leeds Student Newspaper

03/05/2010
The Union of Jewish Students were shocked to discover that the Leeds Student newspaper printed an interview with the Palestine Telegraph editor Sameh Habeeb, in which he implied that there was Jewish control over the mainstream media.

Habeeb has recently been exposed as publishing videos of Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke on his website, and has published newspaper articles questioning the Holocaust.

UJS believes that no form of racism should be given a platform on our campuses. With antisemitism a growing issue up and down the country, it is disappointing that Leeds Student did not consider the racist nature of the comments they published. We welcome the swift response of Leeds University Union in suspending distribution of the paper until the offending line had been removed.
