The motion, Dialogue on Israel-Palestine, recognises the damaging effects the current Israel-Palestine debate has on campus, and pledges NUS' support in facilitating education and dialogue on the complexities of the conflict.
NUS have also underlined its firm opposition to boycotts of Israel, pledging to "support the continued building of links and partnerships between students and students' unions in the UK, Palestine and Israel".
"It is encouraging to see such progress following the damaging policy passed in May. The policy is far from perfect, but NUS has moved in the right direction by adopting a policy that better reflects the diversity of opinion across the student body." UJS Campaigns Director Dan Sheldon said.
"This is a ringing endorsement for our Liberation campaign to build support for two states for two peoples."
Notes
In May 2011, the NUS adopted a policy that branded Israel as an 'Apartheid' regime, pledged to build links with the Islamic University of Gaza and send students on future convoys to the Gaza Strip.
Today's policy was passed by National Executive Council with 19 in favour, 5 against and 9 abstentions.
