A Welcome Message, by Ben

So... this is my first blog. Welcome. My name is Ben Levitt and I'm the Local Campaigns Officer responsible for the north of England and Scotland. I was Jsoc President in Nottingham where I studied History and Politics. I took a gap year in East Africa where I taught in Tanzania for 5 months and travelled around for 6 weeks.

The aim of this blog is to answer the question that many Jsoc members have... what actually is it that you guys do in the office? So, the powers that be decided that a blog would  be the best way to decrease the gap between 'you' and 'us'. Well, that's great and well intentioned but my blog isn't going to be a dry diary of what I've been up to, what meetings I've been in and what I've been planning. I want to make this blog to be more than that.

My hope is that it becomes a message board for comment on UJS activity, and general Jsoc-UJS chit chat. Also, I want it be a hub of Jsoc campaigns humour. Alas, I'm no John Stewart (if you don't know who he is shame on you! Youtube him now) but I'm a big fan of political satire so watch out for some biting e-wit. Youtube clips, limericks, funny articles etc... will be heading your way via this blog. The first clip is one of my favourites- a Mel Brooks classic!...

So what's been going on since I started out in June? We've been in Israel for our team building which was motivational and fostered the UJS collective. As you can tell, the management jargon has now entered my regular vernacular due to bombardment from the professionals. I've got a few plans in the pipeline. My main project at the moment is the Campus Training Programme which is the UJS flagship activism training for activists around the country. If you're in Nottingham, Manchester, London, Leeds, Cambridge, and Birmingham then get ready to get busy. The CTP is shaping up to be great and bearing in mind that it was only in Manchester last year what we are trying here is quite ambitious. Exciting times! I'll fill you in on details in another blog. I've also been working on the Summit, National Interfaith Week, a Speaker database, reactive campaigns kits and more. I'm not going to bore you with the mindless details- tune in next week for that!
