Hi...my name's Mark and I'm the new Local Campaigns Officer for the south of England, Wales and Ireland. This year is a big one for UJS, and we in the Campaigns Team are excited to get on to campus and start working with you!
To (very) briefly introduce myself - I graduated this June from Cambridge Uni with a degree in Social and Political Sciences, having worked closely with UJS over the course of three fun-filled years. I was on Jsoc Committee for four terms and this year am committed to strengthening the partnership between UJS and Jsocs across the country even further. We are here to offer advice, training and resources whenever we can, so feel free to get in contact with us.
So what do the next few weeks hold in my crazy UJS life? I will be visiting as many campuses as possible, whether it is for freshers' fairs or to hold campaigns training sessions. I'm also around to take people out for coffee (or something stronger) if you want to discuss ways in which you can get involved with UJS or to discuss any ideas/fears/hopes/whatever on campus.
Other projects I'm currently working on include planning for Holocaust Memorial Day (27th January) and starting to develop and re-launch BaGeLs, the LGBT network for Jewish students at UK universities. Working with Adam Pike and lawyer-types from Mishcon de Reya, I am also reviewing the UJS Constitution. All systems are go at the UJS offices...and when there's a spare moment, we're putting together freshers' packs too. What fun!
If you want to speak to me about any projects, or if you want to get involved (particularly with Holocaust Memorial Day and BaGeLs), feel free to drop me an email and I'll give you a ring.
I've just been told that we're having a mini-competition inside the office to see who gets the biggest number of hits on their blog, and due to my overly-competitive nature, I MUST WIN! So - I am making a promise, a pledge, a dedication to you, my loyal and beautiful readers, that my blogs in the future will be far better/more interesting/more challenging/etc. than this boring introduction.
Until next time,
Forward comrades.
Mark
