This is a guest post by Rob Prager, Leeds J-Soc.
Following the UJS Campaigns Summit which was held in September this year, members of UJS voted on fundamental changes introducing new democratic procedures within UJS.
This included establishing a National Council responsible for advising and scrutinising the work of the UJS Chair and his tzevet (team). The National Council is also empowered to pass bye-laws affecting the governance of UJS with the consent of the UJS tzevet. The Council meets 3 times a year and receives continued support from the UJS tzevet.
The members of the council were elected for a one year term, with fresh elections scheduled to occur next year.
The successfully elected members of the council for 2010/2011 are:
- Emily Black (Convenor), Durham
- Ilana Fenster, Nottingham
- Rob Prager, Leeds
- Joseph Moses, Birmingham
- Alex Green, Birmingham
The National Council held its first meeting in Birmingham on Tuesday 26th October to discuss the upcoming elections for the next UJS President.
All members of UJS and J-Socs are welcome to contact us on Facebook if you have any suggestions or comments about the way UJS operates.
