INDIA PROGRAMME COORDINATOR ROLE DESCRIPTION
The role of India Programme Coordinator has been created to establish an overseas volunteer programme in West Bengal, to mirror our already established programme in Tamale, Ghana.
Purpose of role: To develop structures to enable a volunteer programme to take
place in West Bengal during the summer of 2010, with support from the UK office.
Key Tasks
• Develop a network of local contacts to assist with the volunteer programme in
West Bengal.
• Establish suitable volunteer placements with NGOs
• Find suitable accommodation for up to 10 volunteers for a two month period
• Carry out assessments and evaluations of placements, accommodation and
surrounding area to ensure fulfilment of health & safety criteria
• Facilitate in-country orientation for volunteers upon arrival
• Liaise with partner projects to establish roles for volunteers
• Evaluate volunteers progress, and arrange group meetings, on a weekly basis
• Complete annual evaluation of projects for their capacity for volunteers
• Be the main source of support and advice for volunteers during their volunteer
placements
• Other Tzedek related tasks as they arise.
Secondary Tasks
• To evaluate Tzedek projects with the assistance of a local professional evaluator.

Essential Skills & Experience
• Experience of coordinating groups of people
• Voluntary experience in a developing country
• Good report-writing skills, in order to communicate important information to the UK Attributes
• Patience and understanding of volunteers' needs in overseas situation
• Commitment to Tzedek's values
• Ability to communicate with variety of different people
• Understanding of Jewish beliefs & practices
• Enthusiastic, highly personable & flexible
• Independent and highly self motivated
Hours: Full-time (involving some evening & weekend work when
necessary)
Length of role: Mid March -- Early September
Communication: Excellent communication should be maintained with the UK office
throughout the 5 month period
Time off: You will be granted 10 days time off. In addition, you should take
days off for Jewish holidays (in line with policy in Tzedek's staff
handbook) and you will not be required to work on Shabbat.
Expenses: All work-related expenses paid for, and allowance for food and
sundry expenses
