Why choose March of the Living?
Thousands of Jewish people, from countries all around the world, will share in a once in a lifetime experience when they march the 3km from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest concentration camp complex built by the Nazis during WWII. This year is the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Aushwitz-Birkenau, join us remembering all those that perished and share this unique experience with survivors of the Holocaust.
On 8 - 13 April 2018, 11,000 people from around the world will march three kilometres from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest concentration camp built by the Nazis during World War II.
Prior to the March, you will travel as part of a group, visiting the concentration camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau and Majdanek, visiting Krakow, as well as historic Jewish sites in Poland. You will retrace the steps of the Death March, the actual route that countless members of our people were forced to take on their way to the gas chambers.
This time, however, it will be a March of the Living, with thousands of Jewish people, like yourself, marching shoulder to shoulder. You will participate in a memorial service at one of the gas chambers/crematoria, in Birkenau, which will conclude with the singing of Hatikvah, reaffirming 'Am Yisrael Chai'- 'The Jewish People Live.'
The Sir Martin and Lady Esther Gilbert Scholarship
We are delighted to bring five highly subsidised places, available to our students, to attend March of the Living (MOTL) with the Sir Martin and Lady Esther Gilbert Scholarship. If successful in attaining the scholarship, you will pay £50 rather than £350 (student place cost; regular cost £450.) Apply here.
Please note that applications for the Sir Martin and Lady Esther Gilbert Scholarship are now closed, and scholarships for March of the Living 2018 have been awarded. Applications for the UJS Subsidy (below) are still open.
If you are unsuccessful in attaining the scholarship or ineligible to apply (if you have been on March of the Living before), you can still receive a UJS subsidy of £100, making the total cost £350 rather than £450. Apply here and select 'UJS Student' on 'How did you hear about March of the Living?' (this is crucial or you may not be able to receive the subsidy.)
Interested? Please contact Kathryn for more information or apply here. Don't forget! To receive the UJS subsidy of £100 and pay just £350 for the trip, remember to select 'UJS Student' on 'How did you hear about March of the Living?'
