UJS Presidential Election Hustings 2017 - submit a question

What are hustings?

Hustings are an opportunity for candidates in an election to address potential voters, usually in response to questions that are asked from the floor or submitted in advance.

What are these hustings for?

These hustings are for the UJS Presidential Election 2017, when Jewish students will be voting for the next President of their national union. The hustings are traditionally held on the Saturday night of UJS Summit, which is taking place this year from 24 - 26 November, so hustings will be on the 25th. This year, for the first time ever, the hustings will be live streamed (as long as the wifi holds up!) and we are excited to announce that potential voters - you, the students - will be able to submit your questions online too.

Who are the candidates?

This year there are three candidates for UJS President 2018-19: Annie Cohen, Lawrence Rosenberg and Hannah Rose (L-R above.) Read more about them here.

Why submit a question?

The UJS President represents the 8,000+ Jewish students studying in the UK and Ireland. They speak on behalf of you and your peers to national leaders like the Prime Ministervoice the interests of Jewish students to national and international media, including newspapers and TV and radio programmes; are responsible for shaping the programmes, events, trips and other opportunities we offer, and so much more. Everything from how much money we're able to give your J-Soc for events to where we can take you on our incredible trips abroad can be decided by the President, so it's important that the President is someone who you believe in as the leader of your union. By submitting your questions to hustings, you have the opportunity to listen to the candidates' answers and see who you would like to vote for.

Is there a limit on how many questions I can submit?

No, there isn't any limit - please submit as many questions as you like. However, please be aware that we might not be able to ask all the questions submitted in the allocated time, and we might combine questions that are worded very similarly to each other.

Where can I hear the answers to my questions?

The hustings will be live streamed on the UJS Facebook page on the evening of 5 December, so make sure you've liked the page in advance in order to tune in!
