A Level Results Day: Our Secret Tips!

As A Level Results day is approaching we wanted to share some of our Top Tips ahead of this important occasion.

Opening that envelope can be nerve-racking, but getting ready to go to university does not need to be – UJS is here to provide all the information you’ll need in one handy article. Our president Esther Offenberg says: UJS has 100 years’ experience of facilitating vibrant Jewish life on campus. From providing kosher food to sending you to Israel on trips, let us know how we can help you! Give us a call or drop us an email, we’re always here to help!”

Freshers Hotline

If you need any advice on the day or shortly after, we have a dedicated phone line to help you to proceed once you’ve picked up your results.
Call us on 020 7424 3288The hotline will be open 9:30 am – 5:30 pm on Thursday 15th August (results day) and 9:30 am – 3 pm on Friday 16th August, plus the whole of the following week. Alternatively, you can email Natacha: [email protected] with any questions you might have!

Clearing and Adjustment

If your results are unexpected or choose not to accept any offers, you might be looking at going to a university you hadn’t considered previously.

Adjustment is when your results are better than you were expecting, and you have met and exceeded your current offer, so you might want to look at options you hadn’t thought were open to you before.

Clearing is for you if you didn’t receive any offers, didn’t accept any offers, or didn’t meet your conditional offer.

Top Tip: to apply for courses through Adjustment, you’ll need to speak to the universities you’re interested in directly, so find their contact details on their website (if you think Adjustment might be for you, it’s a good idea to gather this information in the next few days, so you don’t have to Google frantically on Thursday.) Don’t worry about this for Clearing, as the UCAS website holds a list of all the courses open for Clearing, and the Telegraph publishes a list on Thursday morning too.

Once you’ve found a course that might work for you, why not ring our Freshers hotline? We can advise you about different J-Socs, as well as kosher accommodation and food access for different campuses.

Accommodation

There is limited availability of kosher halls and Hillel Houses in the country. If you have any questions, please call our Freshers Hotline or email Natacha: [email protected].

Settling in

The first term of university holds loads of exciting opportunities and we don’t want you to miss out on anything!

You may have heard about societies at university – these are groups of people with a common interest and they can be dedicated to anything from specific sports (Korfball anyone?) to Harry Potter Appreciation… Your J-Soc (Jewish Society) is one of many societies that you can join at university. We recommend finding out when your Students Union Societies Fair is, so you can meet your J-Soc at their stall and look out for any other societies that might be of interest to you. Depending on when your term starts, some of the High Holiday might fall into term time. Please get in touch with us if you have any questions about meals and services on or near your campus.

Lastly, there are some exciting UJS events and programmes coming up between now and December:

  • Interfaith Week – 10-16 November (look out for J-Soc events too)
  • Mitzvah Day – 17 November (look out for J-Soc events too)
  • UJS Summit – 22-24 November
  • UJS Conference –  8 December

Click here to meet our team who will be out and about on campus this year and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Don't forget to add ujs.org.uk to your favourites and check back regularly for the latest updates and what is on offer on your campus!

See you on campus soon!
