Edward ISAACS, University of Bristol Hi, I’m Edward, a third-year student at Bristol, UJS student Trustee, and standing to be your next President of UJS. I have a track record of standing up for students and making Jewish life at uni thrive. As Bristol JSoc President I thought I’d be planning FNDs and socials, but when David Miller attacked Bristol’s Jewish students, I chose to stand-up, fight and win. Ábel KESZLER, University of Glasgow Hi, all! I’m Ábel, a final year psychology student, co-President of Glasgow Jsoc and your grandma’s pick for UJS president! From being raised in Budapest to now living in the UK, I have a long history of standing up for our community through local and international advocacy. Whether through campaigning for the adoption of IHRA by our students’ unions or getting campus recognition for Jewish holidays. As UJS president I will make sure our Union takes care of all its members and tirelessly works to provide that sense of community that has made me proud to be a UJS member! Gavriel SOLOMONS, University of Hertfordshire Hi! I’m Gav and I’m running to be your next UJS President. I’m originally from Reading, where my Dad’s the local Orthodox Rabbi. Growing up in an area with few Jews instilled the importance of community and taught me how to grapple with being a proud, observant Jew in a non-Jewish world. Now in my 3rd year studying Politics and International Relations at Herts, I have spent the last 2 years on my JSoc committee, organising events and taking the lead when issues have arisen with our University or Student Union. I’ve also led in general student advocacy, by lobbying for improved campus security. In my spare time, I’m a history buff and relax by playing piano or listening to recordings by actual professionals. As UJS President I will bring resilience, tolerance and a deep sense of duty to the role. I hope that those qualities come through clearly in my manifesto. Re-Open Nominations (R.O.N.) |
There’s a candidate called R.O.N. for every single election within UJS. Are you wondering who RON is? RON isn’t a person, it’s an acronym, and it stands for Re-Open Nominations. If you submit a vote for R.O.N, you’re telling us that you don’t think that any of the candidates is right for the role, and that we should restart the process to find better candidates. If RON gets the most votes, then no candidates win, and we will start the nominations process again. We think it’s important that voters always have the option to vote for RON – your leadership should represent you, and if you don’t think any candidate represents you, then you should tell us. |
