The Union of Jewish Students (UJS) is delighted to announce the appointment of Carolyn Bogush as its Permanent Chair of trustees, following her period serving as Interim Chair. UJS is proud to share that she will be the first female Chair to lead the Board of trustees.
Carolyn stepped into the interim role after Daniel Dangoor stood down as Chair, providing stability and continuity at a time of significant challenge for Jewish students across the UK and Ireland.
Carolyn brings extensive experience in Jewish communal leadership, governance and strategy. She has also served UJS as a Trustee for a number of years and is widely respected for her commitment to strong, values-led governance and for ensuring that the student voice remains central to decision-making. Her appointment reflects UJS’s strategic focus on being a student-led organisation underpinned by robust governance, clear accountability and long-term organisational resilience.
Across both her time as a Trustee and her period as Interim Chair, Carolyn has worked closely with student leaders, staff and fellow trustees to support UJS through a period of unprecedented challenge for students and the community more widely. She has helped ensure effective oversight, strong partnership working and a continued focus on the safety, wellbeing and representation of Jewish students on campus, while supporting the organisation’s long-term strategic direction.
The Board of Trustees thanked Daniel Dangoor for his leadership and contribution as Chair, and expressed its confidence that Carolyn’s appointment provides continuity, experience and strategic clarity as UJS continues to deliver its mission and long-term strategy.
Commenting on her appointment, Carolyn Bogush said:
“UJS exists to represent, support and empower Jewish students, and that mission has never been more important. Having worked with UJS for many years as a Trustee and more recently as Interim Chair, I am proud to take on the role of Permanent Chair. I look forward to continuing to work alongside our fantastic student sabbatical officers, President, staff, trustees and partners to ensure UJS remains resilient, exciting and firmly student-led.”
