The UEA JSoc is a growing, warm and friendly community open to all students at UEA. As the winners of 'JSoc of the Year' 2024/25, UEA JSoc runs frequent Friday night dinners, drinking socials, fun activities, collabs with other societies and celebrates the Jewish festivals together! They ensure that Jewish students have a safe space on campus and are more than happy to provide any support or advice that you may need,

What is your favourite JSoc event that you’ve attended?
Ella – UJS ball, “Last year I really enjoyed UJS awards, it was a great opportunity to meet other Jewish students from all parts of the UK and a really nice experience as someone coming from a smaller Jsoc. I’m always excited to celebrate the successes of our community and the UJS awards ball is such a fun way to recognise societies and individuals’ hard work. The food is also really good…”
Robyn – Purim bar crawl, “I love dressing up and having a fun and safe night out with the whole society. Drinking games, costume contest, TikTok making and then hitting Norwich’s No.1 club at the end of the night. Last year me and Ella dressed up and apple and honey as an homage to my favourite festival Rosh Hashanah! Ps, there is no pressure to drink if that’s not your vibe, the local spoons do a divine diet coke”
Is kosher food or accommodation available at the UEA?
There is not kosher accommodation currently available at UEA. There also is not designated kosher food, but there is a range of vegan and vegetarian options available at all the campus food spots, as well as dairy free options for those who refrain from mixing milk and meat.
As for locating kosher meat, the Eaton Waitrose is located a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk from campus and has a designated kosher section including salt beef, viennas, latkes as well as every kind of matzo you could ever need and even kosher Haribos! If you get confused on how to get there or where to locate the kosher section, our co-president Robyn will never turn down an opportunity to go to Waitrose!
If you are not one to shop in person, or don’t want to spend 3 hours in Waitrose with Robyn, Ocado delivers to both on and off campus accommodations and has all that would be needed for a kosher feast!

We have two shuls in Norwich.
The Norwich Hebrew Congregation (Orthodox): www.norwichsynagogue.co.uk. (we have a close relationship with them!)
The Norwich Liberal Jewish Community (Liberal): www.norwichljc.org.uk.
Both are extremely friendly and welcoming!
