Claire Coutinho MP confirmed the Government's position that Holocaust denial will continue to have no place on campus, in a speech at the Policy Exchange on 5th July 2023
UJS obtained public confirmation from Education Minister Claire Coutinho MP that under the Freedom of Speech (Higher Education) Act, Holocaust deniers won’t have the ability to spread this hate on campus and that the law would consider such denial as hate speech rather than legitimate debate.
Guy Dabby-Joory, UJS Head of Campaigns obtained this confirmation from Minister in the DfE, Claire Coutinho, at a talk to the Policy Exchange’s “Freedom Of Speech And The Leaders Of Tomorrow” event.

This crucial confirmation comes after contradictory messaging from the Government during the Act’s passage through Parliament.
