Twice a year, the Union of Jewish Students takes university students on a trip called Manhigut – a week-long insight into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In December, 14 students from campuses across the UK embarked on Manhigut, an access-all-areas trip to Israel. Visiting sites of religious and political interest, they learnt about and discussed the past, present and future of the region.

Jewish students’ experiences on campus seem to always be top of the agenda, whether that is because of an incident at an Israel Society event or because of allegations of anti-Semitism This paints a very disturbing image for those outside of that exclusive bubble.

UJS rejects the notion that there are ‘certain universities that you [Jewish students] should avoid’, along with several of the other comments made in today’s Daily Telegraph. 

Following the publication of the Institutional Racism Review (IRR) into the National Union of Students (NUS), UJS Campaigns Director Josh Nagli said:

There is a genocide taking place in Syria. Right now, people are dying, being murdered, being massacred simply because they live in Aleppo, a disputed area that has been at the centre of a political conflict for four years.

Securing 682 first preference votes from the 1049 cast to win without requiring any further rounds in the AV system used by UJS, Josh Holt has decisively won the election to become the next UJS President.

At UJS Conference 2016, Jewish students participated in a passionate debate about the relationship between UJS and NUS. Ultimately the motion to suspend the working relationship between the two organisations did not pass.

We are extremely disappointed that students on Manchester Students’ Union’s Senate voted to reject peace, dialogue, and coexistence, in favour of a divisive BDS campaign that left many Jewish students present in a state of distress.
