A Jerusalem Gem

Umbrellas Street

Pictures and Written by Adi Peled

I remember the first day I moved to Jerusalem, my first apartment was on Hillel Street, I went out to see the neighbourhood and turned right and saw Umbrellas Street or in its real name Yoel Moshe Solomon. The street is part of Nahalat Shiv'a, the third neighborhood outside the walls of Jerusalem, established in 1869.

Today there are colourful umbrellas and a pedestrian zone with small boutique shops and even the best place in Jerusalem for Poke Bowls. The colourfulness of the umbrellas together with the Jerusalem stones gives an atmosphere that cannot be ignored.

The street connects to Jaffa Street and a short walk away reaches the walls of the Old City. My recommendation to everyone, the next time you visit Jerusalem you should visit Jaffa Street In the evening hours, it is difficult to describe in words the feeling that there is in this area during these hours. This is absolutely my favourite part of Jerusalem.
